    Lago Bianco 2017

In January 2017 a friend of mine and I visited the lake Lago Bianco, a stunning alpine lake located in the Swiss canton of Graubünden. The journey to the lake was just as nice as the destination itself, as we rode the Rhaetian Railway, a historic train that winds its way through the Swiss Alps. The train journey took us through snowy landscapes, over towering bridges and through winding tunnels, all while offering stunning views of the surrounding mountains.

Upon reaching the Ospizio Bernina station, we stepped off the train and were immediately struck by the thick layer of clearish-blue ice which was the main reason for our trip to the lake. The snow-capped peaks that surrounded the frozen lake were just as beautiful. We were only able to explore the Lago Bianco for a few moments at the time since it was so extremely cold and windy outside. It was so cold that even the mirror of my reflex camera froze at one point, and I couldn’t take any more photos. Since the mirror didn’t move anymore which I noticed by the absence of the characteristic clicking sound all photos turned out overexposed from that point on. This meant it was time to head inside the heated Ospizio Bernina to warm up a little bit and drink a hot chocolate before heading out on the ice again. Luckily that longer break inside also fixed my camera. After warming up we headed outside again for a bit. As the sun began to set we took a few sunset photos and then we went back inside to warm up once again ant to wait for the train to arrive. Once it was time, we hopped back on the Rhaetian Railway train and marveled at the changing colors of the sky as we made our way back down the mountain and to our homes. Following you'll find a gallery of the best shots of our trip.
